Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Matthew J — 13 Apr 2012
My personal opinion is that Woody Allen's dramas are never quite good enough. His comedies are amazing but his every attempt at drama was a minor failure (in my opinion at least). That is why 'Crimes and Misdemeanors' left me absolutely stunned.
It is deep, clever and engaging as Woody Allen has never been, it's characters are never black and white and the originality of the work stunned me. Allen's dramas are never dramatic enough to be dramas nor funny enough to be comedies but this is an exception.
To watch 'Crimes and Misdemeanors' is to witness something wonderful. This is truly Woody's best work.
