Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Rainer G — 22 Mar 2009
Absolutely brilliant in every frame, Cries and Whispers is the most intense and mesmerizing film I have seen. An incredibly voyage into the very heart and nature of pain, not only of the flesh, but of the soul.
This is Bergman's most personal, and intimate film. I felt like I knew the deepest, most personal elements of each character, of whom we are shown very little, but in turn, so much, as well as the pain of Bergman himself.
The acting is astounding, as is the cinematography. An intelligent, but also visceral, engaging, moving, and perfect film experience.
