Review of Cries and Whispers (1972) by Kenneth L — 29 Jul 2011
Ingmar Bergman is a true genius. Cries And Whispers is his most emotional work, full of moods and tones. The direction is flawless. The simple art direction only adds to how fantastic this film realy is.
It may be interesting to know that this film was nominated for the Academy Award for best picture in 1973, which was unusual for a foreign film, and remained the only film he ever directed to achieve this honour.
It lost to "The Sting", but managed to take home the award for best cinematography. I know it is a masterpiece, but for some reason I feel that I am giving it a low rating. I loved it, but I need to revisit it again to capture the entire emotional impact that it has to offer.
