Review of Cremaster 3 (2002) by Sascha M — 12 Jun 2007
Not my favourite of the Cremasters, but it's the only one on here ... I found it intriguing, to say the least. Even at 3 hours it's so compelling in the way Barney introduces what amounts to a visual alphabet and then plays around with it, letting you draw your own conclusions. The only area that really falls flat is when he tries to be funny - the slapstick feels totally awkward and very out of place - but then, maybe it was supposed to. Who knows? In any case, if you're interested in sculpture and experimental films, this has to be the pinnacle.
