Review of Creepshow (1982) by Michael C — 18 Jun 2011
George Romero's tongue is firmly in-cheek in this uneven horror portmanteau, inspired by the old EC horor comics. Creepshow is most successful in its stylistic nods to the comics, and generally in its more absurd, light moments of comedy.
The good natured plundering of the genre and joy in making the film really translates on screen. But for me, it's also way overlong, and the actual content of several stories is less than compelling.
Leslie Neilson's segment with Ted Danson is by far the higlight, a revenge tale that becomes supernatural in it's Mario Bavaesque finale. Not a classic, but certainly great fun.
