Review of Creepshow (1982) by Anthony A — 22 Jan 2013
A true gem for any fan of old-school pulp magazines and 50's horror comics. Creepshow is a "horror" film in the truest sense. It is a collection of modern short story horror tales, in the tradition of Algernon Blackwood, Lord Dunsany, Edgar Allen Poe, and H.
P. Lovecraft. The great classic horror tale is typically introduced by a narrator, and as Creepshow stays true to this format, it is also bookended by brief animated sequences in the vein of the 50's horror comics the stories are inspired by.
Most of all, all five stories are fun and enchanting, leaving the viewer craving for more. Fortunately for fans, there exists a sequel, which is just as wonderful, and even better, a third film under the title: 'Tales from the Darkside', also written and directed by Stephen King and George A.
Romero.
