Review of Creepshow (1982) by Steve D — 02 Jul 2008
EC Comics ("Tales From The Crypt") had a big influence on writer Stephen King and director George Romero; so in 1982 they unleashed this homage to the classic horror comic anthologies that EC had published in the early 1950s. The film is very tongue-in-cheek despite the fairly grisly goings-on.
The best segment involves a monster in a crate and two university professors (Fritz Weaver and Hal Holbrook) and a shrewish wife (Adrienne Barbeau). Also of interest is the segment with Ted Danson and Leslie Neilson; Danson had just landed the role of Sam Mallone in CHEERS and, despite being in AIRPLANE, Neilson was known for playing bad guys in movies.
Watch and beware of snatching your kid's comic books. Avoid the sequels.
