Review of Creep (2014) by Ann B — 03 Sep 2015
An unsettling and WAYYYYY scaled-back little horror film that gets under your skin early and had me on edge for the entire second half. Creep is the directorial debut of writer/co-star, Patrick Brice and working together with indie talent, Mark Duplass, crafted a stripped-down, and eerily simple premise that dug it's claws into me early, and never let up.
This is a found-footage horror, and while that gimmick has been pretty much bled dry, this film offers fresh spins on the format and it's almost like the Duplass character is directing his own film by scaring the main character himself.
It's not the scariest film I've seen as the jump scares are exactly that; jump scares, but the tension built throughout becomes unbearable right up until the shocking, and brief ending. This is one for the horror fans who can appreciate a bare-bones effort that is scarier than most big budget horror films because this is 100% believable.
