Review of Creed II (2018) by Eric C — 22 Nov 2018
It seems like every time you see that Stallone is dusting off Rockyï¿ 1/2(TM)s rumpled hat again, you wonder if this is the one that people are just going to say enough is enough. Yet, this franchise seems to just get better and better.
While this film may not quite be better than its predecessor, it is definitely a fitting piece in the Rocky mythos. Michael B. Jordan turns in another fantastic performance as titular Creed. Jordan seems to be on course for fabulous career as a top actor.
This film draws fabulous performances from all involved, including Dolph Lundgren. Ivan Drago and his son Viktor were actually the surprise of the film for me. They were undoubtedly the big Tussian villains of the film, yet they were villains that you care about.
I was taken aback by the fact that they were fleshed out and given proper motivation and backstory. In these films, weï¿ 1/2(TM)ve come to expect excellent action. You get that, but itï¿ 1/2(TM)s the nostalgia to the past films, as well as the emotional weight of the characters involved that make this film a wonderful addition.
It is nothing original, as it follows the same Rocky formula weï¿ 1/2(TM)ve seen again and again. Yet despite this, it finds ways to make you invest in the story and care.
