Review of Creed (2015) by Stephen Z — 23 Feb 2016
Glad I saw this. I know it's not Rocky's story, but I can't help being overwhelmed by memories of the previous films, as he is by the losses in his life. Yet he decides to help the son of his late opponent, and is helped by young Adonis in return.
To me, the earlier Rocky Balboa was a send-off for the character, and I'm not sure if I want more spin-off films, but "life goes on." I was deeply moved by the origin Rocky when I saw it in the mid-70s.
Ironically, after seeing the original "Rocky" 16 times, I wrote Stallone and begged him not to do any sequels for fear that the character would be ruined. I don't remember if Stallone replied; obviously, he ignored my plea.
I'm glad he did, because I loved seeing Rocky's struggle to "go the distance" over 40 years in and out of the ring. I relate more than ever to his losses of Adrian, Mick, fame, health, hope, purpose.
