Review of Creed (2015) by Peter F — 10 Mar 2016
The best Rocky movie since the original, as well as the best boxing film since The Fighter. Creed finds director Ryan Coogler making a more commercial transition after the success of his indie film Fruitvale Station, but sacrifices none of his razor-sharp filmmaking tactics.
The film just carries a weight to it that most modern sports movie exudes, as it's plausible, semi-gritty, and ultimately triumphant. Is it groundbreaking? Hardly, but audiences with reasonable expectations and a yearning for a real underdog story will get there money's worth and then some.
