It's a difficult thing to create a spinoff of an established franchise and make something that stands solidly on its own. Creed does this and does it really, really well. There's enough Rocky sentimentality in it to keep original franchise lovers invested while strides are carefully made to pass along the torch.
You can see the switch in the look and feel of the film. Technology is used nicely - The HBO coverage,the iPhone and iPads. The soundtrack also evokes a different mood. Loved the casting and there was some moving script writing.
Overall, a really respectful and well executed spinoff.
