Review of Creed (2015) by Richard S — 22 Sep 2016
This could be the start of a new boxing movie franchise, I prefer to see it as an ending to another. The Rocky franchise has had it's ups and downs, with the stand out films for me being the first, fourth and sixth movies.
Despite the title, this is a movie about Rocky Balboa and his final fight, a fight in which the odds are stacked against him and no one has ever won. Michael B Jordan does a decent job as the son of Apollo Creed trying to make a name for himself and step out of his father's shadow but it's Sylvester Stallone that steals all of the scenes, especially when he gives a heartfelt speech as to why his final fight is not one worth fighting.
There is word of a sequel being developed which I personally think would be a mistake, it's a fitted end to a well loved character, these movies are all about Rocky and I don't believe that as well as Michael B Jordan does in this film that he can carry a franchise like Stallone did.
A well written and surprisingly moving film about the fights we can win and those we can not, it brought back the pleasure of watching the original Rocky movies. Would certainly watch again.
