Review of Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) by Art S — 23 Jun 2012
A late entry in the Universal Monsters series, directed by Jack Arnold (who also did the Incredible Shrinking Man). In fact, this monster flick, with its evolutionary basis, holds together pretty well.
Perhaps the underwater scenes drag a bit but for the 50s (and a low budget), the cinematography and staging are pretty well done. There are some genuinely creepy moments too -- you wouldn't want to tussle with the Gill Man at any rate.
