Review of Creation (2009) by Trevor W — 05 Oct 2009
Slow, at times even turgid, Creation nevertheless works, because of the importance of the subject matter, moments of intense emotion and perhaps above all thanks to Paul Bettany's virtuoso peformance as Darwin.
The story revolves around his interaction with daughter Annie in both life and death, and the destabilising effect this has on his faith and motivations for completing The Origin of Species. The entire cast is impressive, but everything good about the film revolves around Bettany's portrayal.
Worth seeing, but the screenplay's attention to detail asks a lot from the audience, so be prepared for the story's slow evolution.
