Review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) by Mike C — 05 Jan 2014
If based on the Dirty Dancing scene with Gosling and Stone, the movie is easily an 8/10. But there's a lot more going on than that one scene, and it's average at best. Every hot girl falling for a guy who looks, dresses, and talks like Gosling...well okay, that's not so far-fetched. But making everything a game...that's not an idea I like.
Not a big Carell fan but he's okay basically as the lead. He's awkward enough and believable. What is probably not believable is him scoring some younger trim. Gosling is, well, Gosling. One of my favs. He was made to play this character, but I think he's not actually like that in life. More like the guy who falls for Stone's character. And again, she pretty much shines. She can't not be adorable. Finally, Analeigh Tipton will be a star someday. Seen her a few times and I always like her. She's just pretty enough to pull off a big role someday.
In all, the characters are kinda interesting, especially that of Gosling who plays hard because he is unhappy. But the Carell storyline, especially involving his son's third-grade teacher is just a bit over the top. Maybe they will just have to make a new romance with Gosling and Stone. That shit would sell.
