Review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) by Jordan F — 14 Feb 2013
Quick Review:
Ugh...Such a poorly made hollywood film about love.
Steve Carell plays a dad of two who recently finds out that his wife has cheated on him. He pretty much gives up at the beginning of the film and tells his wife that she can have whatever she wants in the divorce. Going to the same bar every night (probably cheaper to film it that way) Carell regales uninterested strangers of his story of loss and love. He meets Ryan Gosling, a mysterious play boy who has mastered the art of picking up women. Feeling sorry for Carrel Gosling takes him under his wing and transforms the man. Another thread in the film is that Carell's son is in love his his babysister who is 4 years older than him and wants nothing to do with him.
The film sets up the plot extremely fast, but the film is uneven in deciding who's story this is. Emma Stone's character enters sporadically and the way Gosling and Stone find each other seems effortless.
Spoiler Alert: The twist at the end was unexpected but does offer a fairly fun climactic scene.
This film is flat, one note and only got produced because the actors involved. The jokes could satisfy a child but are not very original. However there is one sweet scene that stands out which involves a pilot light, however that's not enough for a recommendation.
