Review of Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011) by Paula P — 02 Jan 2015
A surprisingly good, emotional and honest rom-com. All the performances seem genuine. The comedic moments are funny and awkward (as was intended), and the dramatic moments are very well done.
This film's honesty stems from its view of marriage as a very sacred thing that is extremely difficult at times. It does not hold divorce in high esteem, which I appreciated quite a bit.
The film is also a commentary about two opposing male lifestyles - the responsible family man and the unfeeling, womanizing bachelor. I enjoyed the clash between the two, personified by the character arcs of Cal and Jacob, and the fact that this film definitely takes the biblical side in that debate. Far too many films glamorize the empty existence of womanizing.
