Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Chiedu M — 18 Dec 2018
The plot of âCrazy Rich Asiansâ? is your typical romantic-comedy plot, of a young middle-class woman who is meeting her boyfriendâ(TM)s rich family for the first time and is trying to get the approval of her boyfriend's mother.
What makes this movie stand out is its unique setting, the cast, and cultural variation.
Thanks to this film, I now have another country in Asia I want to visit. Japan, Korea, and now Singapore. Seeing this movie on the big screen is beautiful. The visuals and locations are breathtaking as you watch the characters interact.
The characters are outrageous with their money spending that you become enthralled by the characters lifestyle, how they act, and what they do. It reminds me of the old fashion days where the royal bloodlines of king and queens spend money on parties and interact with people that are only as wealthy as they are.
All the actors do a beautiful job. You can tell what the characters are exactly feeling based on their eyes. Creating great emotional subtext. At times this had me tearing up.
Now the plot may have nothing new to the romcom story formula. But what makes this movie fresh is itâ(TM)s set in a new environment, with a cast of a different background, and characters with a different culture than Americans. The movie is so on point with its storytelling that you care about the characters issues and struggles.
This was a short review, but yeah, go see this movie and have fun!
4.7/5 Stars.
