Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Danny H — 10 Sep 2018
Before seeking political asylum, let me apologize for not liking this movie. I preface my critique.
By swearing that I support the plea for cultural diversity and agree that there should be more Asian representation in Hollywood. Besides that though, I was sure I was watching a modernized remake of Pretty In Pink without Ducky. I don't object to making statements, I just feel that to gain critical acclaim, and probably at least a few awards, they should have to achieve more than simply teaching those who don't know better, that Asians can be wealthy. The acting was very good and I will gladly give a gold star for its inclusiveness, the same star I gave to Moonlight, when I also left the theater wondering if, had they removed the political statement, the movie would have ever made it to the big screen. I feel like I've been denied membership to The-Emperor's-New-Clothes-club; only those who are truly cultured can see how wonderful the film really is. Could someone explain to this Philistine what else there is in this movie? Otherwise, I'll swear I'm the only kid who can see that, outside of donning a political statement, the producers aren't wearing clothes.
