Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Emily N — 15 Aug 2018
This is a movie for everyone. Forget the fact that its the first all Asian cast since Joy Luck Club for a minute. The movie really brings the "com" in rom-com and shares multiple plots within a movie which really shows the aspect of family.
Crazy Rich Asians isn't just a romance movie about a protective mom and a crazy lifestyle. It gives the audience a peek into family dramas that anyone can relate to. And above all, you get a free trip to Singapore and a sneak peek of some of their elites' lifestyles.
For a long time in Hollywood, it has always been an Asian nerd, sidekick, immigrant. This movie clashes with that ideology from the first scene of the movie. There's a bit for everyone. Some jokes Asians would understand more, some jokes Americans would understand more.
But there's no doubt you'd have a good laugh, cry, and a couple gasps along the way.
