Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Jackie Q — 04 Dec 2011
A film without a whole lot of substance (I'm almost tempted to call it a slice-of-life piece) but the actors and the people they portray make it a quality film. I don't usually care for Jeff Bridges, but this is really the perfect character for him to portray, and even though his words came across more as rough grunts half the time, I was still moved by his performance, plus Gyllenhaal turned in the best role of her career.
The music was good (man, though, was that Colin Farrell cameo random or what?) and the plot, although predictable and overly scripted (Hollywood seems to be churning out a few of these musical biopics a year lately), the film is still thoroughly enjoyable and enjoys a nice pace.
If you're looking to unwind after a long, hard day of work, this movie is for you.
