A perfectly pitched performance from Bridges in a most convincing portrayal of a Country Singer in the twilight of his career. Travelling hundreds of miles a day between gigs in small town venues, his song writing days appear to be behind him.

But a chance meeting with a young single mother (Gyllenhaal) and friendship from an ex-backing player now a star in his own right (Farrell) inspire him to write again. Battling with alcoholism and in bad shape, he is forced to review his life and ultimately rise above it all.

Heart warming, and convincing playing and singing from Bridges.
