Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Greg L — 20 Jan 2011
A character study so well-acted and low-key you forget you're watching a movie at times. Jeff Bridges disappears into the character of Otis "Bad" Blake, an aging, down-and-out country singer whose personal demons have provided great inspiration for his art but thwarted his search for personal happiness, and Maggie Gyllenhaal is almost as terrific as the young music journalist who takes a liking to him and tries to help him overcome them.
The music (by T-Bone Burnett and others) is great too. This one's a gem.
