Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Richard D — 09 Feb 2011
Never mind all those silly awards people. Forget about who won what.
And instead enjoy this as the engrossing, superbly acted little musical drama that it is.
Not a single performance feels weak (even the swaggering - well meaning buffoon Farrell so easily inhabits) and the dialogue is never contrived, first-time director Harriet Walter often actively avoids convention and though it's ultimately fairly predictable and resolves itself in a somewhat unlikely fashion, this is essentially a feel-good film full of interesting characters and wonderful, memorable, sometimes quite breath-taking songs.
