Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Chuck C — 05 Mar 2011
Follows the storyline that many films of its ilk follow with one stark difference.... It ends well. WHEW what a relief.. Jeff Bridges preforms a tour de force as broken down and washed away legendary country western star Bad Blake.
His fictitious life mirrors so many true life stories about music stars lives once the lights are not so bright. But Bridges performance is so amazing right down to his singing and the nagging cough that follows him around the whole picture.
Character actor is not enough to describe what kind of a performance this is. For the first time I can remember the Oscar was given to a performance that was beautiful and subtle. No giant flashy speeches just uncomfortable silences.
Even though I really don't care for country music its somber melodies fit perfectly in the background of this dark whiskey filled tale. Who knew Bridges and Farrel could sing so well!
