Review of Crazy Heart (2009) by Daryl T — 18 Nov 2011
This is a movie you've seen before. Be it a biopic or fictional. Aging musician/artist who always has a drink in hand and wondering how fast his last show is coming. But, because of Jeff Bridges' absolutely amazing performance, this film is more than that.
If you want to see an actor breathe real-life into their character, endow truthful subtlety in their part, and absolutely nail a role that they were born to play, then you need to see Jeff Bridges rendition of Bad Blake.
I didn't even really know what this movie was about when I started watching it. Jeff Bridges name alone will always confirm for me that I'll be watching. It's true that we will not be witnessing cinematic history with the incredible plot or awe-inspiring film-making.
However, if you are a fan of acting and want to see one of those performances that comes along every once in a rare while, this is your absolute oppurtunity. Plus it was really odd to see an Irish born model turned actor portray a country singer and pull it off.
When Colin Farrell came into the acting scene I was one of those who really didn't want to see him. Part of me thinks because he was just in every other movie that was coming out. I'm glad to see that he has slowed down and really looks for roles that suit him.
He did a great job. Meaggie Gyllenhaal is always welcomed in anything I watch. And a great few scenes with legend Robert Duvall rounds it out.
