Review of Crazy/Beautiful (2001) by Damon Y — 27 Nov 2007
I never had any intention of ever watching this movie. It just looked like another stupid, multi-ethnic Romeo & Juliet film - where, instead of Montagues & Capulets, its Brentwood vs. East L.A.
MAN, was I wrong!
I really enjoyed this film. And, ultimately, everything you need to know is in the title. Kirsten Dunst is beautiful, but she's CRAAAAAZZZYYYY. So, at one moment, you, just like Jay Hernandez, are completely swept off your feet by her and just want to love her for the rest of your days, before you realizing that she is literally stealing your life away. With some great performances by Bruce Davidson and Taryn Manning, but this is really the Kirsten Dunst show. Easily the best performance I've ever seen her give after "Interview With The Vampire". Really romantic and heartfelt.
