Review of Crank: High Voltage (2009) by Corey B — 18 Sep 2010
After watching Gamer I said I would never watch another Neveldine/Taylor film again. But....I started to see Crank 2 popping up on guilty pleasure lists, and I got intrigued.
Why did I doubt myself?
Now, it's better than Gamer, but Gamer is one of the worst things I've ever had the misfortune to sit through. Crank 2 is just dull. Oh, it tries to make you think it's not dull by throwing things at you - subtitles, fantasy scenes, elaborate flashbacks, Insane camera angles, reanimated talking heads - but for every second that works (and that's literally how short some of the jokes are), there are ten minutes that don't.
Style over substance just can't sustain a feature length movie.
