Review of Crank: High Voltage (2009) by James R — 27 Jan 2011
Crank 2 begins just moments after the original, with Chev Chelios hitting the ground after his long way down, who is then captured by chinese villains who take out his heart and replace it with an internal battery pack. The film then begins, with Chev Chelios going on another rampage, to find his Strawberry Tart (cockney slang for Heart, as seen in film). The film's just like Crank 1. There's blood & gore, the action's still here, the humour never trails off, there's barely a scene without a use of bad language and there's a sex scene, but this time, Chevy actually finishes off before he runs.
There's brilliant cameos: the Linkin Park frontman makes another appearance, Geri Halliwell plays his mum in a flashback/fantasy sequence and there porn stars galore during the porn star strike scene. The fact that they brung Efren Ramirez back only as the twin brother of the character who died last film would be ridiculous, if not for his full body tourettes, which is just downright crazy (NOTE=in this film series, the more crazy the better).
The last film revelled in crazy, but this one embraces it, mates with it and marrys it. A man gets his elbow chopped off, theres a godzilla homage, strippers get shot in the breasts with silicon leaking out, a porn star riot, a severed head being kicked like a football and a burning man giving the middle finger to the camera.
Crank 2 may put off viewers, but those who embrace craziness will love this.
