Review of Crank: High Voltage (2009) by Nathan T — 04 Aug 2012
I'm a big fan of the first Crank movie. It was shamefully gratuitous, over-the-top violence, no effort required; just turn your brain off and have a good time watching. Crank 2 carries this over well, but not without some sacrifices.
First the good stuff, it's definitely a fun movie, the story is ridiculous and the action is still over-the-top and the writing still full of laugh out loud moments. However, the first is much better for several reasons.
Firstly, the first Crank focused solely on Statham, it was always about what he was doing, this film tries to cram in too many side-plots and give a cameo for every character in the first. Also, there are way too many weird moments, that only seem to be there for the sake of being weird.
I can definitely recommend this as it's a lot of fun and doesn't require much effort, but make sure you see the original first.
