Review of Crank (2006) by Joe E — 27 Jan 2011
Normally, I do't give two shits about any film that involves Jason Statham, but Crank changed that all for me. Crank is about hitman, Chev Chelios, who wakes up one morning to find out he's been injected with a drug that, if his heart rate slows, will kill him, like a human version of Speed.
The drug is chinese poison (as you do). Chev Chelios now goes through the entire film to find who injected him and kill him. The violence is graphic (and I MEAN graphic. You see a guy get his hand chopped off by a meat cleaver.
no cutting away, you actually see it get cut off), the humour is crude, there's a public sex scene and the film doesn't bother to take itself seriously. Normally, these (or at least most of them) would be listed as bad points, but they all work for this movie, helping highlight its downright craziness.
Before this film, I only saw Amy Smart as a good girl type, but after seeing this film, I really saw her acting grow as a more adult type actor. This is one of the best action films I have seen, and the ending really sets it up for a sequel.
and I recommend it to everyone.
