Review of Crank (2006) by Emma C — 07 Jul 2011
Let's get this straight: Crank is a completely retarded movie. Directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are in no way masters of subtlety. The movie is a lean 88 minutes of loud, adrenaline-pumping, violent action.
And as a matter of fact, it's perfectly okay, as Crank is a wonderfully over-the-top callback to the great action films of the 1980s. Jason Statham is by no means a A-list actor, but he sure is BADASS, coming off as a lean, mean British Bruce Willis, while making sure that his character is as adrenaline-infused as possible.
Dwight Yoakam, Amy Smart, Jose Cantillo, and Efren Ramirez all play supporting roles, but none of them command the film the way that Statham does. It's a B-movie of the highest order, and it's exactly what it wants to be.
Therefore, it's one of the more enjoyable experiences to be had watching movies.
