Review of Cradle Will Rock (1999) by Mark K — 13 Jun 2007
Really good...but not great. A fascinating retelling of the events surrounding the attempts of Orson Welles, his production team, and artistic associates to mount a run of a controversial political musical.
The end result is much more inspiring than anyone involved could have imagined, but as wonderful as the film can be, it is tough not to notice that there is just something that halts the film from stepping up into greatness.
I think at times Robbins allows the film to become a bit too dogmatic, but still a wonderful movie.
