I wish Robbins & Co. had simply stuck to the story of the troupe putting on the musical. That story alone is enough. I think by trying to expand it to include the ventriloquists et al the movie aims to broadly.
Nice to hear the Blitzstein tunes with more than a piano for once. Would have liked more of that.
