Review of Cracks (2009) by Zak S — 09 May 2010
Cracks is obviously similar to The Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie (1969) but with deep dark secrets and perversion. I had been looking forward to seeing this for a few years as it's written and directed by Jordan Scott, Ridley Scotts daughter.
Eva Green is suprisingly great as Miss. G; the controversial single and independant woman of the era who's travelled the world, loved a million men and is trying to be a new style of role model to her precious students who hang on her every word. The young actresses playing the girls are all wonderful, Temples scowling face and obvious inner rage as the plot develops is great right down to the fumbling and chubby Fuzzy.
Shot on stunning locations through Ireland and excellently presented, it's visual appeal, down to Miss. G's exoticly styled bedroom, is beautiful. Rich in colour and detail.
I really enjoyed this movie for it's pacing, story and characters. The whole thing comes together into a great piece of work and amazingly the female dynamic is identical today as it was then and in 1969.
