Review of Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret (2014) by Will M — 20 Sep 2015
Rating the actual documentary 5 stars and the subject matter 5 stars should be two completely different things. Just like the christian movie war room, I will not rate this movie 5 stars solely based upon the fact that I am a christian. Nor will I rate this movie 5 stars simply because it covers excellent source material.
The documentary itself was well produced from a post production standpoint. It was shot in what has to be the most boring way possible, however. It was like going to an environmentalist church sermon, the movie spends an inordinate amount of time preaching, which is a shame. It also dangerously toes the line on radicalization, which judging by other reviews I am sure plays well into the primary audience of this film. As far as what the film sets out to do, illuminate the contribution of animal husbandry to global warming to the world, I would say it has failed - unless you are already thoroughly convinced that riding your bike to work and eating tofu will change the planet. More power to you and I wish you luck in your endeavors. I too am biking to work this morning, but I will thoroughly enjoy my steak tonight. This is a systemic problem, just like water conservation.
