Review of Cowboys & Aliens (2011) by Andy G — 21 Sep 2012
The alien invasion has now been seen in every kind of sauce, the idea of some aliens invading "west" though is new. Something that fascinates me is the timelessness of the Westerns. Of course this movie is probably settled in the second half of the 19th century, but if would be in 1950 or 2050 could be the same.
Watching the landscapes of the set, those men with their horses and those old dusty towns you imagine that they will always be the same, also in 3000 years, and this is good for the movie, because it means that the pictures worked out very well.
And in fact it's true, the picture did work out very well. But then comes the sci-fi part. The only positive in it is the weapon Jack find on his harm, while all the rest is scrap. The ship, the flying machines, the aliens, everything.
Daniel Craig is convincing, and also Harrison Ford at moments, but why should we believe that some indians will follow them thanks to an ecplanation of an american "adopted" indian? Why should be believe of the incredibly fast evolution of the characters? I don't know and I didn't understand why there is this late tendency of transforming villain or semi-villain in positive characters.
