It's a niche movie for a niche audience. Fans of the western genre will enjoy this subversion of the space-western, but fans of riveting battle sequences and high concept science-fiction should just watch the trailer a few times. With a movie like this, how good you think it is will be determined by how good you think it should be.
Somehow, John Favreau manages to make this film seem much less of an achievement than it is. Still, I'd suggest watching Star Wars or Stage Coach one after the other, rather than subjecting yourself to this half-baked attempt at a very rich idea.
