Review of Cowboys & Aliens (2011) by Paul D — 16 Jul 2014
It was a pretty great movie, one of the weirder ones. It was a tad nasty, but being one of a kind, the nastiness added to the smoothness and flow of a very fast moving, fast paced, creative burst of giddy weirdness and Harrison Ford is very dependable, Daniel Craig was a bit of a disappointment, but this movie was more about the Alien costumes, spaceships, and the female influence.
If there was one flaw in this movie, it was my lack of empathy for Daniel Craig's boneheaded performance. And that horrible behavior by that shit-disturber, Paul Dano, was gross to look at too. But then again, there was some very shocking dialogue, great acts of redemption and heroism, some poetic justice, lots of action, some moving parts, and a very "cool" tone that had a lot of swashbuckling sexiness to it that no other movie has been able to duplicate for me, at least for now.
I came out feeling happy and wanting to talk about the plot with my moviegoing friends. Sometimes, the big-budget movies don't even give me that much happiness and discussion/speculation. This one was special because it was pure action/adventure which we don't see much anymore (action & adventure + technology and goofiness).
It's a very weird, thrilling combination that is a challenge but also a breeze to enjoy and talk about later. It was very good.
