Review of Cover (2007) by Yet R — 25 Jun 2008
Believe it or not this was in the theaters. I started it and had to leave early, so I rented the video. On one hand, it is a joy to support another film directed by Bill Duke. As well, I am happy to see some quality actors (such as Paula Jai Parker and Roger Guenveur Smith) get exposure and WORK.
Having peeled away a layer, though, I am mad that this story perpetuates SO many stereotypes. The issues in it are too sad to pass for "entertainment's sake" and too distorted in the film to educate.
