Review of Courage Under Fire (1996) by Lynne N — 22 Nov 2007
The story keeps you guessing and the great performances from an all-star cast keep you interested. 'Courage Under Fire' is extremely well-crafted and, because of this, encourages you to empathise with the characters and consider how you would react in their situation - as a normal human being in an extraordinarily stressful circumstance.
However, the movie is perhaps a little too all-American for me and it strays into the realm of melodrama on occasion - which, in this instance, is not a good thing. If you like this and want to see something from the same director - watch 'Glory', which is Zwick's far superior masterpiece and rightly won Denzel his first oscar.
