Courage under Fire is a decent military drama which focuses on a Lieutenants investigation into the possible first ever awarding a post-humous medal of honour to a female officer who performed a daring rescue of a downed US helicopter. The films strong point is its cast, everybody is on top form here except one critical mistake, and Meg Ryan is totally mis-cast as an army officer. The pace was a little all over the place; the middle section dragged on for far too long and suffered from an overdose of melodrama. The supposed powerful ending didn't really strike a chord and again suffered from serious melodramatics.

The war scenes were very hit and miss, the opening scene was just ridiculous and very poorly shot. From then on though, the action scenes were good and realistic with some great effects. Sadly though for a film that markets itself as a war film they were few and far between.

Courage Under Fire is an entertaining film but one that suffers from over-dramatics. Watchable.
