Review of Courage of Lassie (1946) by Nick L — 23 Jun 2007
This is a crappy Lassie movie. In 1943, "Lassie Come Home" was released, and it's freakin' good..so I figured this one would be as well, and it's not! Lassie isn't even in this movie.
..they call him "Bill" instead of Lassie. It's funny that they actually market the film by using the name "Lassie" in the title, and then have neither a character nor a reference to a character named Lassie.
The movie should have been called, "The Courage of Bill", but if that was the case, they could not have tricked people into watching it. With a couple of the actors the same, I figured that it would be tied into 1943's "Lassie Come Home" as well, and I was wrong again.
Scenes are scattered all about, and don't transition well from one to the other, and the storyline is spread very thin. If you're ever in the mood for a good Lassie movie (and I sort of hope that you never are), You should watch "Lassie Come Home" cause it kicks ass.
"The Courage of Lassie" sucks so bad that even Lassie doesn't take part in it, despite what the title would have you believe.
