Review of Country Strong (2010) by Melissa G — 04 Aug 2011
*Soon after a rising young singer-songwriter (Hedlund) gets involved with a fallen, emotionally unstable country star (Paltrow), the pair embarks on a career resurrection tour helmed by her husband/manager (McGraw) and featuring a beauty-queen-turned-singer (Meester).
Between concerts, romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all. -- (C) Columbia * I have to admit this film wasn't that bad. I was a bit hesist cause I don't really care for Gwyneth Paltrow's singing and this film didn't really change my mind because it looked so fake.
She was trying too hard to be a singer that it hurt her performance but the film itself was rather quite touching with her relationship with her husband James [McGraw] and her "sponser" Beau [Hedlund] who is madly in love with her but plays the role of a babysitter instead of lover.
The rising star country barbie Chilies [Meester] just wants to be heard and admired by her idol [Paltrow] and make it in the business. I watched this film with my parents because we were supposed to see on Mother's Day but the dvd hadn't been released yet and my Mom enjoyed it because she loves Tim McGraw and so do I.
We watched this on STARZ on demand on the Early Premieres and it was worth it to make my Mom happy. :)).
