Review of Corpse Bride (2005) by Fantasyfan — 09 Oct 2005
We saw this and Wallace and Gromit in the same night. The latter was hilarious and creative and fun, and the former came closer to putting me to sleep than any movie has in years. The much vaunted visuals were frankly a bit dull and strangely thin--I never got a sense anything was around the corner or beyond the horizon.
Oddly, the sound was the same, like three people singing into a mike. Speaking of singing, most of the lyrics were god-awful, rhymes that were as predictable as they were meaningless. And of course the story and dialogue were about as simple and wooden as anything from a mid-summer shoot-em-up.
There are many reviewers who seem to have praised this movie whose judgments I may never trust again.
