Review of Corpse Bride (2005) by Tyler M — 26 Oct 2012
I like to think of this one as the twin sister to Nightmare Before Christmas. Though it is slightly inferior to Nightmare is some aspects, it is also superior in others. For instance the stop motion animation is better and the character designs are slightly improved.
This one comes up short in terms of songs, even though there is a deleted song called Erased that shouldn't have been removed from the movie because it is essentially a vocalized version of Victor's theme.
The movie on the other hand showcases Danny Elfman's superior score writing which wasn't present in Nightmare. One of the more pleasing factors to this movie was the stark contrast between the world of the dead and the world of the living.
The living realm is a grey boring pallet of color while the dead are more colored and fun to watch and at the end where they come together pulls it off just right. This is one of Burton's better pictures.
