Review of Corman's World (2011) by Edward G — 29 Mar 2012
Brilliant documentary about a brilliant and very clever man.
Roger Corman has been called king of the B movie ,but this film seeks to show how he discovered young talent and how that talent went onto change the face of Hollywood movies.
Cormans trick was to employ hungry filmakers and give them a chance on his low budget often shot in a matter of days films.
The list of the talent he discovered is huge and we get comments from Martin Scorsese,Peter Bogdanovich,Jonathan Demme,Ron Howard,Bruce Dern,Peter Fonda,Joe Dante,Allan Arkush,Gale Annne Hurd,John Sayles and Pam Grier.
The stories and reflections are soemtimes very funny and always honest as the film makers and stars remember Cormans methods .
The Best of these is Jack Nicholson who is funny honest and at the end very emotional when talking about Corman .
The clips from the films are good fun too and it made me want to seek out his work ,and the Oscar may only be an honuary one but to me its richly deserved .
