Review of Coraline (2009) by William J — 29 Aug 2012
Refreshingly original, stylishly designed and directed and with a great, slow-paced, story that contrasts nicely to some of the more full-on animated fare in the field. Laika have found a niche for spooky stop-motion flicks, and here's hoping ParaNorman lives up to the high standard started by the fantastic Henry Selick. Though definitely none too appropriate for younger viewers, Coraline is a wonderful film, that any animation fan should check out.
N.B. To say things like "Pixar aren't the only good animation studio" does a great disservice to the rest of the animated field. As an avid animation fan, I can safely say, studios like DreamWorks output quality, as do Disney, and The Adventures of Tintin, too, was fantastic. Animation is a broad field, explore it!
