Review of Copying Beethoven (2006) by Tomaszw. — 29 Nov 2006
American critics don't get it. Copying Beethoven (read the title!) is not about Beethoven but about a hypothetical young woman who could have been and should have been, a meditation on art and the nature of genius in a field that's been the most guarded bastion of male supremacy.
Journalistic criticism is too shallow and impressionistic to recognize or appreciate Agnieszka Holland's thoughtfulness and subtlety.
